About the Role

As an entry-level Food Technologist based in Kathmandu, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to develop and promote healthy and sustainable food products. You will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of food product development, quality control, and regulatory compliance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of a dynamic startup while making a positive impact on the health and well-being of consumers.

The person in this role will report to the Chief Product Officer.

Responsibilities:

Food Product Development: Collaborate with the product development team to assist in the creation of new food products that align with our company's mission and target market. Help with recipe formulation, ingredient sourcing, and conducting sensory evaluations.

Quality Assurance: Support the implementation and maintenance of quality assurance systems and procedures. Assist in conducting quality control tests, including raw material inspections, in-process checks, and finished product evaluations. Monitor product shelf life and assist in managing product specifications and documentation.

Regulatory Compliance: Assist in ensuring compliance with local food safety and labeling regulations. Stay updated on relevant regulations and help prepare and submit necessary documentation for product registrations and certifications.

Research and Analysis: Conduct research on industry trends, consumer preferences, and emerging ingredients or technologies in the field of nutrition. Assist in analyzing data and findings to contribute to product development strategies and decision-making processes.

Process Optimization: Assist in optimizing existing food production processes to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and waste reduction while maintaining product integrity.

Documentation and Reporting: Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation related to product development, quality control, and regulatory compliance. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and progress to the team.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other teams, such as marketing, sales, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of product development efforts. Participate in cross-functional meetings, contribute ideas, and provide technical support as needed.

Continuous Learning: Stay updated on advancements in food technology, nutrition, and industry best practices. Attend workshops, webinars, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of food science principles, food safety, and quality assurance practices.

  • Familiarity with food regulations and labeling requirements in Nepal.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Effective communication skills in English and Nepali, both written and verbal.

  • Passion for nutrition, sustainable food systems, and improving public health.

  • Prior experience or internships in the food industry or related fields is a plus.
